Joel Rector, B.S., RPSGT - President

Joel received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Denison University in 2005.  He has been involved in sleep medicine since graduating, first as a sleep technologist, and now as Regional Manager for a group of sleep labs in the Columbus, Ohio area.  Joel has recently started a HME program in collaboration with his sleep labs, and is currently furthering his education in the Masters in Health Administration program at Ohio University.

Kevin M. Huban. Psy.D, D,ABSM. CBSM - President-Elect

After obtaining a bachelors from the University of Virginia in 1972 Dr. Huban served in the United States Navy until being honorably discharged in 1976. After his service he acquired a Master in Social Work at the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1978. Dr. Huban went on to attend the Florida Institute of Technology's School of Psychology obtaining his Doctorate in Psychology in 1983.

For the last twenty three years Dr. Huban has served as the Clinical Director of the Miami Valley Center for Sleep and Wake Disorders where he created the Insomnia Behavior Programming.

Since 2006 he has functioned as a surveyor and site visitor of Sleep Centers for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Joyce Gray - VP Organizing Committee, Secretary-Treasurer

After serving as a nurse in the hospital setting for twenty six years, Joyce became the Good Samaritan North Sleep Laboratory and Diabetes Center Registered Nurse Manager and has remained the director of these accredited programs for the last twelve years. In addition to managing these departments Joyce has become an advocate of patient education and improved patient outcomes, creating a CPAP support group, authoring patient education literature, championing a CBT Insomnia Program, and drastically improving patient satisfaction.

 

James Metz, D.D.S.

Dr. James E. Metz is a 1973 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.  Dr. Metz maintains a general dental practice in Columbus Ohio with an emphasis on dental sleep medicine. He is the Affiliate Director of The Ohio State University Medical Center Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program and fills an important role in an ongoing research grant through the National Institute of Health focusing on insulin dependence in adults with OSA and diabetes. He has held faculty appointments at both The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine.   The Ohio State Dental Board retains him as an expert for clinical dentistry.  He serves on the AADSM board of directors, course development committee, public relations committee and is the co-chair for the Introductory Course of Dental Sleep Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the ABDSM and holds memberships in the ADA, American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, American College of Dentists, AADSM, EADSM and other organizations.

 

Samir Ataya, MD, FCCP


Dr. Samir Ataya received his medical degree from Damascus University in Damascus, Syria.  In 2000-2001, he interned at the highly regarded Henry Ford Hospital Department of Medicine for an internship and residency.  Upon completion of his residency at Henry Ford, Dr. Ataya conducted his fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine department.  Dr. Ataya is board-certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

 

Sudhir Gosain, MD, FCCP

Nicole Blevens, RPSGT

Nicole became involved in sleep medicine shortly after graduating high school in 2002. Beginning in the secretarial role in an accredited sleep center, Nicole became excited about sleep medicine and advanced her training to become a night-time sleep technologist. Today, in her current role as daytime/mid-shift technologist, she assists in coordinating the daily operations of a four bed sleep center and scoring sleep studies. Nicole is currently furthering her education in the Bachelor of Science Advanced Patient Care program at Grand Canyon University and is set to graduate in the spring. She is advocating for the advancement of sleep education for patients, technologists, and physicians through public awareness.
